In a twist usually only seen in the movies, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced  La La Land as Best Picture on Sunday night’s Oscars, only to realize there had been a mistake, and ‘Moonlight’ was the big winner.

Well into their acceptance speeches, the producers of La La Land were surprised when a stage manager broke in to give them the correct envelope and explain the mistake while the bewildered Moonlight cast and crew came to the stage.

While mild panic ensued, Beatty tried to explain that he had ben given the wrong envelope, saying he had seen the name Emma Stone from ‘La La Land’ when he opened his envelope.

‘I want to tell you what happened I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land and that is why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny. This is Moonlight for best picture,’ Beatty told the shocked crowd.

The accounting firm quickly took blame and released a statement explaining they had given Beatty the second copy of the Best Actress envelope instead the Best Picture envelope.

Ladies and gentlemen, live television at it’s worst — and best.

Shock on the audiences faces as the Best Picture mix-up occurs live on stage.
