We were so close.
Cases of Covid are once again soaring, fueled by unvaccinated Americans and the very contagious Delta variant. In fact,  COVID-19 cases in the U.S. have doubled in the last three weeks from an average of 11,400 on June 23 to an average of 23,600 new cases per day.
And in States with love vaccination rates, medical experts warn of full Covid units and a rise in deaths.
In Florida a doctor reported:
‘The overwhelming majority of those coming in sick with Covid are unvaccinated. Many are young — people in their 20s and 30s who are getting extremely, extremely sick and some of whom are dying.’
This worrying trend is also seen in Texas and Missouri, where only In Mississippi, where 34% of the population is fully vaccinated.
For hospital workers who went through a hellish last year, the worry is can they deal with this all again?
In Texas, one nurse lamented:
“What I fear is, can we survive this again? Can we stay positive, can we all keep our morale up?” she said. “We’re trying hard to be there for each other but we’re tired and we’re scared.”
Listen to Dr. Sergio Segarra, a doctor in Miami:
“We’re dealing with a public health situation that’s beyond our personal needs, so we need to be a little bit more selfless as opposed to selfish,” Segarra said.
“So if you’re on the fence on whether you get vaccinated or not … think of the good that you’ll bring to your society, that you’ll bring to your community, because not only does the vaccine prevent you from getting sick, it prevents you from transmitting it to others.”
