This weekend, a clueless tourist backed into a 17th-century painting at the Uffizi Galleries in Florence while trying to take a photo. When he realizes he damaged the famous painting, he takes off.
Director Simone Verde issued a statement condemning “the problem of visitors who come to museums to make memes or take selfies for social media.”
This comes just after a man stupidly pretended to sit in a chair inspired by one of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous paintings, which is covered with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. Fortunately, they were able to restore the chair, and it is back on display, but this time with a big sign that warns, ‘DO NOT SIT.’
