So you’re off to Philly, the City of Brotherly Love, for business, vaca, or maybe a college visit? You want at hotel that’s centrally located, has airy, comfy rooms, great service, and a small, boutique space. The Kimpton Hotel Palomar checks ALL the boxes. Located in Rittenhouse Square, it’s minutes from Center City, all the cafes and shops. (Don’t miss Melt Kraft, across the street from the hotel which serves the best cheese melts you’ve ever tried.)
The stunning 1929 landmark building was originally the original Architect’s Building, the GM Mark Hayes tells us on a recent stay:
The building itself is beautiful and has Art Deco details throughout . There was a lot of care taken to preserve original elements, like the AIA Library on the 25th floor.
When you first walk in you’re greeted with a communal living room with a fireplace that is instantly cozy, perfect for drinks or catching up with your work team. The smiling reception desk person takes care of your reservation speedily and seems genuinely glad to see you. Despite the urge to linger in the lobby, go up to your spacious room for the view (most of the 230 rooms have city views), luxurious bed (frette linens) and the roomy bathroom (with luxurious Atelier Bloem bath products! )
And if you’re new to the Kimpton chain of boutique hotels, they are some serious perks that come with being a member (sign up online for ‘Karma Rewards.‘) Take the hosted wine hour every evening at 5-6, the complimentary morning coffee and tea, the yoga mat and robes in every room, and public bikes available to guests who want to zip around the city. For the ultimate luxury, sample one of the in-room spa services, like the Aroma Journey Massage.

Forget your laptop charger? Not to worry, with the “Forgot it? We’ve Got It!” travel essentials service, they’ll send someone up with a toothbrush, curling iron…whatever you left at home.
While technically a ‘chain’ (total of 65 properties in 33 cities), the Kimpton hotels are all unique properties with the friendliest staff we’ve ever encountered, all of whom who go out of their way to make sure we have a stellar stay. The prices are reasonable — figure around $168 to $375, depending on your dates.
We’ll meet you in the lobby for the wine hour.
