Tesla has announced a recall affecting over 46,000 Cybertrucks from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a defect in the cant rail—a stainless-steel exterior trim panel—that can detach while driving, posing a road hazard and increasing the risk of crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified that the cant rail was attached using only structural adhesive susceptible to environmental embrittlement. Tesla’s remedy involves replacing the adhesive with a more reliable solution and adding a bolt for reinforcement. Starting May 19, 2025, owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail, and repairs will be provided at no cost.

This recall marks the eighth for the Cybertruck since its release in late 2023, with previous recalls addressing issues such as sudden loss of drive power and tire pressure warning-light failures.

The series of recalls has raised safety concerns among consumers and investors. Tesla’s stock has fallen 42% in 2025, reflecting a broader decline in sales and investor confidence.

Tesla advises Cybertruck owners to contact Tesla customer service or the NHTSA for further assistance regarding the recall.
