If you’re following your dermatologist’s advice and protecting your skin at all times from sun exposure, chances are your days of getting that golden summer tan are done — as they should be. The good news is that all the education about the link between sun exposure and cancer has led to a trend among millennials and Gen Z to favor sun protection over tanning to a crisp, and new research has shown cases of skin cancer among adolescents and young adults in the U.S. have declined, even as the rates rise among older generations. With those encouraging stats it’s clear that shunning the sun is the smart choice!
But that doesn’t mean you need to embrace the pale. For those of us who still prefer the look of a golden tan, there are a plethora of self-tanning options on the market, and they’re improving all the time! One of the latest self-tanners to hit the market is by Tanoligist, a line created by make-up artist Lottie Tomlinson. You might recognize her name if you’re a One Direction fan, since she’s Louis Tomlinson’s sister, but she’s much more than just a nepo-sib! With an Instagram following of more than 5 million, Lottie is a beloved make-up artist and influencer as well as a self-described “tanning junkie,” which is why she created her own line of tanning products.
I was offered to try out the line, which is vegan-friendly and free of parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfates, and mineral oils. It’s also the first clean beauty tan certified with the official dermatologist-approved seal, meaning all the products are skin-safe and don’t contain anything that will clog your pores and cause breakouts.
It goes on streak-free and includes skin-hydrating ingredients like squalene and aloe vera to nourish your skin and counteract the drying effects of most fake tans. And, it actually smells great! One of my pet peeves with most self-tans is that they usually have a terrible scent that lingers at least until you shower it off, if not longer.
But the new products from Tanologist manage to smell amazing while delivering an even, natural-looking tan that won’t dry out your skin. That’s what I call tan-tastic! They’re also reasonably priced with their hydrating daily glow lotion just $12.99 USD, their self-tanning mousse $17.99 USD and their self-tanning drops $19.99 USD. Products are available in the US at Tanoligist.com and in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart.
