As you might have heard, earlier this week the CMA head honchos came out with guidelines warning that honorees and the press were to ‘avoid topics including guns and the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest festival shooting.’

Co-hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley weren’t having any of that:

“Now, Brad, I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but the CMA has given us some guidelines with specific topics to avoid,” Underwood said. “So we can’t be doing any silly little songs because this year’s show is a politics-free zone.”

Paisley promptly broke into these ditties:   “Way Down Yonder on the Scaramucci,” “She Wrote a Memoir, Hillary’s Back” and “Stand By Your Manafort.”

Our favorite of the night was Carrie’s clever take-down of Trump on ‘Before He Cheats’ :

“Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching cable news, reaching for his cellphone. He’s probably asking Siri how in the hell you spell Pocahontas. In the middle of the night from the privacy of a good-plated White House toilet seat, he writes little Bob Corker, NFL and covfefe. And it’s fun to watch until little rocket man starts a nuclear war. Maybe next time he’ll think before he tweets.”

Well played.
