When the publicist calls – someone you really trust, by the way — and tells you HAVE to try an IPL Laser treatment, you sign on without realizing “Uh-oh, I’ll to post one of those ugly BEFORE photos were I look all blotched and spotted and ANCIENT!’ No photoshop for these photos.

According to our friend/ publicist, the IPL treatment (Intense Pulsed Light) is a breakthrough in ‘age-defying’ skin care, and it’s ‘non-invasive’ (one of my favorite words) so while it’s getting rid of age spots, blotches, unsightly fine lines and rosacea, there’s no down time. (Since I was the generation that bathed in baby oil before sunbathing, I have considerable sun damage, so my hopes are up.)

When you show up at Cosmetique Aesthetics in Culver City, they slather you with numbing cream — believe me, you need the numbing feature later. Don’t be a hero, leave it on for the full 30 minutes —  so you look GREASY on top of your usual ‘I woke up like this’ look.

During treatment (sadly, that's not me. I wish.)

But Dr. Sarshad put us at ease and patiently answered all our questions; ‘Would I look like JLo after the procedure?’ that kinda thing. It only took about 15 minutes, with the good Doc covering our eyes from the laser light. (‘We’re at a spa! ‘ we tell ourselves.) The zaps feel like a tiny rubber band snapping against our skin; not bad at all. Really.

After they wipe off the goop (technical medical term), you look in a mirror – and Whoa! Immediate gratification. My skin looked smoother, brown spots almost gone, my red blotches were reduced, and some of the little lines around my mouth were diminished. Even a scar from a biopsy was reduced.

Doc Sarshad recommends three more treatments and then once a year for maintenance. Sign me up! I could live there and get treatments every day (the entire office staff makes you feel that welcome.) Cosmetique Aesthetics offers a variety of different procedures so we figure we’ll just work through them alphabetically.

But pleeeassssse can we get a gorgeous model as our stand-in next time? And yeah, we owe our publicist /friend dinner …or a car.
