US security officials have warned that Russian forces could take Kyiv soon, and they already have seized control of Chernobyl.
In anticipation of massive bombing, the citizens of Kyiv have been rushed to shelters.
So far, it is reported that 137 Ukrainians have been killed on the first day of conflict, while 300 have been wounded.
At an emergency press conference, President Biden emphasized, ‘Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences,’ adding that a new round of sanctions will be levied against Russia.
‘He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine. He wants to, in fact, re-establish the former Soviet Union. That’s what this is about.’
Meanwhile, terrified Ukrainians are taking refuge in subway stations.
