In downtown L.A. , there’s a drugstore that sells very little drugs, but plenty of amulets and wishing candles. . Popular in Latino communities, the “Botanica,” or  “Templo Santa Muerte” serves as a meeting place of diverse practices — spiritual, medicinal and therapeutic.

On a good day, the ‘Templo” sells 25 candles a day, the owner scratching in the name and birth date of the person affected and advising customers on the prayer they need to say.

Selling hope, one candle at a time.
