A man dressed as a ‘Krampus’ creature takes part in a parade at Munich’s Christmas market. Young single men will wear the traditional attires known as ‘Krampus’, consisting of animal skins and masks, with large cow-bells to make loud and frightening noises and parade through the city.

This beast-like creature comes from the folklore of Alpine countries and was said to  punish children during the Christmas season who had misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts. Krampus is said to capture particularly naughty children and drag them off into the black forest.
