California is being battered by a huge storm, knocking out power, causing flooding and mudslides. A flash-flood warning has been in effect at midnight in the recent burn areas, and authorities have told residents to prepare for evacuations.

Forecasters say the storm, which has an “atmospheric river” known as the Pineapple Express that can be up to 400 miles wide, is one of the most powerful to hit California in years.
