Legendary guitarist Chuck Berry, who merged blues and swing into early rock n’ roll, died on Saturday aged 90, according to Missouri police.

A highly influential musician, Berry penned hit after hit, such as Rock & Roll Music, Roll Over Beethoven, Johnny B Good, Maybellene and School Days.

Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to the the musician, saying, “Chuck Berry was rock’s greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock ‘n’ roll writer who ever lived.”
