For all of us that couldn’t get a reservation at Kitty’s Canteen, the eclectic Jewish soul food eatery on the Lower East Side, the news that they are opening a takeaway shop located next to the restaurant, is reason for celebration.

Founded by Richard Kimmel (co-founder of neighboring nightclub-theater THE BOX) he has said that both locations were inspired by his Grandmother ‘Kitty’, a bookkeeper for a jazz agent in the 1930s who would cook her Jewish soul food for jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington.

Kitty’s a-Go-Go will serve dishes like the “Black Cat” Matzo Ball Soup, Kitty’s trademark bagel/biscuit mashup, the Bisgel, and their popular Matzo Meal Fried Chicken on-the-go. You can also get delectable hand pies and house-made soft beverages. We’ll save you a spot in line.
