Killer food. CHECK. Killer location: CHECK. Killer drinks: CHECK.

The new Killer Shrimp restaurant in Hermosa Beach checks all the boxes, and if you’re a shrimp fan, chances are you already know about the casual seafood place, and fortunately for us who live in the South Bay, (California) they’ve just opened a new spot on the Pier in Hermosa Beach, where the view is as good as the food.

When you enter the beachside spot, you’re greeted enthusiastically and handed a drink menu. There’s a boisterous group at the bar, digging into Popcorn Shrimp, and fun-looking cocktails.Which brings us to the bespoke drink menu. Since KS hired renowned drink mixologist Marcos Tello, they offer drinks with names like ‘Dark n’Stormy’ (Gosling Black Seal Rum with Ginger Beer and fresh lime) and custom creations made with fresh juices, homemade syrups and crushed herbs served over ice pearls. ($11) But if you’re craving a beer, they have 12-tap beers on draft, domestic and imported bottled beers, or for that matter, a surprisingly good wine by the bottle or glass, or even a sparkly glass of Mumms Brut for $8.  Glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio anyone? ($12 but most wines are $8 or $9.)

Our fish n' chips.

Our fish n’ chips.

Justifiably famous for it’s spicy shrimp, the most popular dish is the’ Original’ served with a huge colander of French bread for dipping in the spicy sauce ($17.) It’s so fresh because they only cook with natural ingredients and simmered the shrimp for 10 hours. Only when you order is the shrimp added to the sauce and cooked. But say you don’t want shrimp? Check out the expanded menu. Grilled Filet Mignon with peppercorn sauce & hand- cut Fries ($22), Pan-Roasted Bone-In pork chop ($20) or maybe Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($15) pictured above. Yeah, our order was that big, and all the entrees are very generous. The homemade cole slaw was excellent as was the Warm Spinach Salad (spinach, mushrooms, Hard boiled Eggs, Feta Cheese, Crumbled Bacon and our Warm Balsamic) to start .($13.)

Save your room for desert too, like the warm apple crumble ($7) which is as good as any we’ve had.

It’s the kind of restaurant that right after you leave you’re planning your next meal. Lobster Mac n’ Cheese and Shrimp Risotto with Asparagus and Parmesan, if you must know. See you there.
