If we had a $1 for every time our wonderful editor-in-chief Evan mentioned we should start using retinol we’d have enough for a designer bag or shoes. Like most good advice we were slow to get on the bandwagon, so when we were offered the chance to try the HYAESTIC Retinol serum we could ignore this advice no longer.
HYAESTIC sent a lovely kit that included two different Retinol strengths, 0.5% ($55 for 30ml) and 1% ($65 for 30ml). It also included the B5 Revital Serum ($45 for 30ml) and the NMF Light-Weight Hydrating Cream ($38 for 30ml). Since we had never used retinol we started with the lower dose and were sure to follow the instructions to apply a small amount to the face and neck every evening, beginning just twice a week, and then slowly increasing the frequency until daily use was tolerated. We noticed a near immediate difference with the retinol, most especially with clearer pores on our nose and chin (a main benefit of retinol is it causes a natural exfoliation, helping treat and prevent clogged pores – can we say bye-bye blackheads?!).
After feeling comfortable we were ready for daily use, we switched to the 1% concentrate, which is intended to encourage cell turnover, revealing healthier, more youthful skin. It promises to help fade lines, wrinkles, and dark spots, and it really does. Our crow’s feet became less noticeable, especially when wearing makeup. We did see a couple of sensitive spots pop up right at our cheekbones, but after avoiding that area with the retinol for a few days everything was fine.
The B5 Revital Serum and NMF Hydrating Cream have also become daily staples, especially in our evening skincare routine. The serum includes 1% Hyaluronic Acid and provides light hydration while soothing the skin. It absorbs instantly and feels great. When paired with the NMF (which stands for Natural Moisturizing Factor) Hydrating Cream we noticed our skin was significantly more moisturized, leaving it soft and supple.
