Sunday afternoon, Russian President Vladimir ordered his troops into small, separatist-held parts of eastern Ukraine in what the Kremlin called a “peacekeeping” mission.

Putin has always maintained that the Eastern areas of Ukraine are ‘ancient Russian lands.’ In fact, he seemed to claim that Ukraine is not its own country saying “Ukraine has never had traditions of its own statehood.’

NATO is meeting to decide if this triggers punishing sanctions. Is it war?
