In New York, the jury found former President Trump guilty of sexually abusing and defaming the writer E. Jean Carroll but stopped short of accusing Trump of rape.

The jury awarded Ms. Carroll, 79, a total of $5 million in damages. This is the first time Trump has been found guilty of sexual misconduct though he has been accused by many women over the years.

 

Since the case is a civil case, not a criminal one, it means Trump has not been convicted of a crime and won’t have to serve time in prison.

E. Jean Carroll had accused Trump of raping her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s.
