Imagine waking up in L.A. to this ‘abridged’ Hollywood ‘sign? The iconic landmark was altered to read ‘HOLLYWEED’ and immediately began trending as locals posted photos. This isn’t the first time pranksters have changed the famous sign.

On Jan. 1, 1976  a Cal State Northridge arts student Danny Finegood also altered the sign to read “Hollyweed.” The prank earned him an A for a class assignment.

Appropriately, the joke kicks off of the first year recreational marijuana use will be legal in California, thanks to the voter approval last year of Proposition 64, also known as the ‘Adult Use of Marijuana Act.’
