We own a few candles. By ‘few’ we mean that every available surface has a candle — or three – sitting pretty. So we decided to cut off our additive habit…that is until we saw the Artistscent collection.

Each candle is a work of art, based on a painting. Aristscent works with artists to silk screen their work onto a reuseable glass vessel, and create a scent that suits the original work. They include an informative page on the artist too, so you can really connect to their art in candle form.

You don’t even have to light the candle to smell the scent, either.

Polynesian Waves candle.

We picked the beauty above — ‘Polynesian Waves’ based on a painting by Elizabeth Karlson. And it smells as lovely as it looks, with notes of vanilla, seawater, pineapple and fragrant hibiscus native to the islands.

We also love the ‘City Scape’ scented candle by artist Ronnie Queenan, which the site describes as a ‘field of fresh wildflowers in the spring against the backdrop of a Texas city landscape.’ (Ok, we can see that. )

‘Coral’ by RON CHERESKIN.

For a more modern abode, there’s the Ron Chereskin collection of handsome, minimalist designs, with clean fragrances to match. ($42.)

To give you an idea, Chereskin’s works are on permanent display in the library of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC and MOMA in New York City.

So even if you can’t afford one of these artists’ paintings you can own a silk-screened candle of their art with a custom fragrance. Artistscents.
