Alek Minassian, the van driver accused of killing 10 people and injuring 15 when he plowed down pedestrians in Toronto, appeared in court today.

Federal mounted police are not involved, which means the authorities don’t consider this an act of terrorism.

Multiple reports coming in from people who knew him say Minassian had mental issues and attended a high school program for students with special needs where he would often walk the halls with his head down making meowing noises, according to former pupil Shereen Chami.

Worryingly, he appears to admire the Santa Barbara mass killer, also a social recluse.
