Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie announced the nominees on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.

There were some surprises , some snubs and some nominations out of left field. In other words, it was SAG nomination day in Hollywood.

Last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne  was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for his performance in ‘The Danish Girl’ but faces serious competition f Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Johnny Depp (Black Mass), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs).

For the supporting actors noms, it’s a tight race between Christian Bale (The Big Short), Idris Elba (Beasts Of No Nation), Mark Rylance (Bridge Of Spies), Michael Shannon (99 Homes), and Jacob Tremblay (Room).

The female actors in a supporting role has SAG favorite with Helen Mirren (Trumbo) and Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) topping the list, with Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Rooney Mara (Carol), and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl.)

In a surprise snub, the blockbuster film ‘The Martian’ didn’t garner one nomination. Pundits had pegged Matt Damon for at least one.

Since the SAG awards are considered a good predictor for the Academy Awards, garnering one — or more — SAG nomination bodes well for the nominee.

The 2nd annual SAG awards will take place on January 30 in Los Angeles.
