If there’s one lesson or easy advice one can give on grooming for the modern 21st century man (and their female supporters) it’d be you need to get this book!

“MANMADE – The Essential Skincare & Grooming Reference for Every Man” is a tome of helpful grooming expertise compiled by author Chris Salgardo, the President (and lifelong fan) of Kiehl’s Since 1851. With Salgardo’s guidance you are in good hands – as a beauty and skincare executive Salgardo has worked for Chanel Inc., Estée Lauder Companies and L’Oréal USA. He is also an avid motorcyclist and philanthropist – introducing Kiehl’s, LifeRide, an annual motorcycle ride through major US cities which has raise millions of dollars for amfAR and the fight against AIDS.

Credentials aside, “MANMADE” offers guidance tailored to a man’s lifestyle and interest level with 200+ pages and devoted chapters to the specific grooming needs of the “modern gentleman”; the “hands-on man”, the “extreme dude”, The “rebel artist” and the “Renaissance Man.” This book is not just for the metrosexual man, it is for all men, and an easy and factual guide of information, quickly getting to the needed information and explaining what skincare is all about – because let’s be honest men, with the advent of the “selfie-age,” facetime conferencing and appearance based apps such as Tinder or Grindr (whichever your fancy) at no other time has one potentially been on display to such a large audience. Men you best be on your game.

“MANMADE” features needed advice from skincare 101 and properly cleansing and exfoliating your skin – to maintaining facial hair, eyebrow and nose-hair maintenance, shaving and more. Some of the key take-aways are the importance of SPF for anti-aging and under-eye cream (and the importance of application technique as the under-eye area is thin and fragile – don’t pull or tug!). According to Salgardo sunscreen is the most inexpensive way to make your skin look good and to protect it.

There are also some great practical notes found throughout the book in the “Life Hacks” sections. Who knew you could accomplish a quick shoe polish while on-the-go by using the outside of a banana peel? Or using clear nail polish to secure a loose button. Other useful hacks include hanging your shirt in the bathroom while you shower to steam it before you iron or using hair conditioner or body lotion as a substitute if you’ve run out of shaving cream. There’s plenty more to be shared.

Men – with a variety of grooming products readily available and “MANMADE’s” useful guide at your fingertips, there’s no excuse – this is for your long-term benefit. If you can invest in your 401k you also need to invest in your long-term appearance. While grooming product choice is often a very personal preference if you need a go-to for reliable and well-made products Kiehl’s has got you covered.

This editor has been a fan of the brand’s Facial Fuel moisturizer since practically the turn of the millennium. As part of this story I was fortunate to try some of Kiehl’s new and best-selling products. From the selection my favorites were the Age Defender Line (Power Serum, Moisturizer and Eye Repair). We are also a fan of Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate (made with Quinoa). Some other top picks include the Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollution Defending Masque and the brand’s shaving cream – The Close Shavers Squadron Smooth Glider Precision Shave Lotion, as well as the newly released Nourishing Beard Grooming Oil. All are available at the click of a mouse via Kiehls.com, one of the purveyor’s 250 retail stores worldwide, and also available at the majority of national department stores.
