For those who love a traditional high tea, served on fine china, with dainty sandwiches, savories, delicious pastries and all the ceremony that surrounds a proper tea, Vancouver Fairmont Hotel is the place to go in the northern city. From the decor at Notch8 in the grand hotel — decorated for Xmas when we were there — to the delectable finger sandwiches, tea scones, festive pastries (all made in house of course) and the choices of teas, it’s the perfect treat.
It’s hard to chose a favorite between the savory (smoked bacon & gruyere Tartlet, to name just one), the tea scones (Devonshire Clotted Cream with house Made Fruit Preserves), the tea sandwiches (curried free run chicken branston pickle on a Caraway Roll) and of course the festive pastries, which included gingerbread men, shortbread, Brandy Cherry Truffle, and a Pistachio White Chocolate Cake, so in keeping with the season, you eat everything. As one should.
Nicknamed ‘The Castle’ (the beautiful building stands on a hill in downtown Vancouver), they also offer a ‘Children’s Bubblegum Tea. Treat your kiddies to Bubblegum Tea (other varieties are available), finger sandwiches, fresh strawberries and cream, a giant chocolate chip cookie, mini jello and a seasonal fruit tartlet.
Adults $59; Children $29.5 (ages 12 and under.)
