1 in 5 Americans are affected by mental illness in a given year.
Approx. 50% of students age 14 and older with a mental illness drop out of high school.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death of our youth – 90% of those who die by suicide had an underlying mental illness.
These scary statistics are the reason May is mental health awareness month and why the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) partnered with Philosophy’s Hope and Grace collection to launch the stigmafree campaign, a national effort focused on shattering the stereotypes associated with mental illness.
Philosophy is donating 1% of every purchase you make to providing resources to over 100 community-based mental health organizations (up to $50,000) but more importantly, drawing attention to the issues.
On May 28th celebs E!’s Morgan Stewart, Catt Sadler and Natasha Bedingfield joined forces help spread awareness on this initiative. For more information and to learn how to help: http://www.philosophy.com/hope-and-grace/hope-and-grace,en_US,pg.html.
