JUST IN: Majority Whip Steve Scalise went into surgery earlier today after he was shot in the hip and according to the hospital, is out of surgery but listed currently in critical condition.
As news of the shooting at a practice for the GOP congressional baseball team which wounded House Republican Steve Scalise as well as two Capitol Hill police agents, a congressional staffer, and a lobbyist for Tyson Foods reverberated around the Capitol, Capitol Hill increased security and canceled events.
Capitol Hill Police notified congressional offices that the security presence on the Hill would be increased “out of an abundance of caution.”
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was among five people wounded Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire during a congressional baseball practice at an Alexandria, Virginia, park.
 As we write, Scalise is in surgery for the shot in his hip and is expected to make a full recovery.
